IN 1830 15-year-old Margaret MacDonald of Port Glasgow Scotland invented a brand-new doctrine, saying that, to ESCAPE tribulation, the Church would be taken up to heaven in a, “Rapture,” BEFORE Jesus comes again! And, since then, many, who are afraid of going through the coming Great Tribulation, have tried to re-interpret Scripture to support young Margaret’s invention. That doctrine didn’t exist until Margaret invented it in 1830! Verses in I Thessalonians are some of those they have twisted to try to support what they want people to believe.
They say that I Thessalonians speaks of a, “Rapture,” BEFORE Jesus returns!
15 For this we say unto you by the Word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the COMING of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16 For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
I Thessalonians 4:15-17 The BIBLE2 For yourselves know perfectly that THE DAY OF THE LORD COMETH as a thief in the night.
3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
I Thessalonians 5:2-4 The BIBLE
But these passages DO NOT say that this will happen BEFORE Jesus’ Second Coming, but AT His COMING! Throughout Thessalonians, Scripture repeatedly speaks only of JESUS’ SECOND COMING!
19 For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ AT HIS COMING?
I Thessalonians 2:19 The BIBLE13 To the end He may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at THE COMING OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST WITH ALL HIS SAINTS.
I Thessalonians 3:13 The BIBLE15 For this we say unto you by the Word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain UNTO THE COMING OF THE LORD shall not prevent them which are asleep.
I Thessalonians 4:15 The BIBLE23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless UNTO THE COMING OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST.
I Thessalonians 5:23 The BIBLE
In fact, also in Thessalonians, Scripture says that we Christians are APPOINTED TO SUFFER for Him here on earth, and not to expect anything less!
3 That no man should be moved by these afflictions: for yourselves know that WE ARE APPOINTED THEREUNTO.
4 For verily, when we were with you, we told you before that WE SHOULD SUFFER TRIBULATION; even as it came to pass, and ye know.
I Thessalonians 3:3-4 The BIBLE
“But,” these fear-filled people say, “we’re not appointed unto wrath, the Bible says!” Scripture does, indeed say that:
8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of SALVATION.
9 For GOD HATH NOT APPOINTED US TO WRATH, but to obtain SALVATION BY OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST,
10 Who DIED FOR US, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should LIVE TOGETHER WITH HIM.
I Thessalonians 5:8-10 The BIBLE
I Thessalonians says, here, that we’re not appointed unto God’s wrath in damnation, but SALVATION; we’re CALLED to Jesus’ SALVATION, living with Jesus by Spiritual SALVATION, whether we’re alive or dead! Verse 10 tells us that JESUS DIED FOR US, not so that we won’t have to go through tribulation and troubles on earth, but so that we can obtain SPIRITUAL SAVATION! The passage says nothing, here, about escaping earthly persecution and troubles! Rather, verses 3:3-4 say that we are APPOINTED TO SUFFER TRIBULATION!
I Thessalonians says nothing of a, “Pre-Tribulational Rapture;” It speaks only of our suffering tribulation until, “the COMING OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST,” Who has called us into His SALVATION.
23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto THE COMING OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST.
24 Faithful Is He that calleth you, Who also will do it.
I Thessalonians 5:23-24 The BIBLE
For this reason, we are called to be holy
7 For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.
I Thessalonians 4:7 The BIBLE
5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.
7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.
8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.
9 For GOD HATH NOT APPOINTED US TO WRATH, BUT TO OBTAIN SALVATION BY OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST,
I Thessalonians 5:5-9 The BIBLE
Are YOU ready to meet your Saviour? Are you living a Godly life, reflecting that Saviour Who gave us the PERFECT EXAMPLE, as spoken of in I Thessalonians?
14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is SALVATION; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
16 As also in all his Epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable WREST/TWIST, as they do also the other Scriptures, unto their own destruction.
